Abstract In 2003, many US wireless carriers completed their rollouts of their initial high-speed wireless data networks. Those rollouts coincided with the widespread release, in the US, of innovative devices, such as camera phones, which have driven interest in data services. During the year, messaging also became highly popular. The number of both Short Messaging Service (SMS) and Multimedia Messaging Service (MMS) messages sent exploded, far exceeding forecasts for the year. This report reviews the state of wireless data services in the US in 2003 and presents In-Stat/MDR’s updated forecasts for wireless data.
