number of homes in North America, new consumer electronics products
are starting to provide something new and different: the ability
to store video and audio files in an integrated hard disk drive.
Consumers are
starting to realize that greater storage capacity in their home
can enhance the quality of audio and video entertainment. For this
reason, products that create what we call “pockets of storage”
are beginning to appear throughout the home. Consumer electronics
products that create these pockets of storage with integrated hard
disk drives include Personal Video Recorders (PVRs), digital audio
jukeboxes, video game consoles, and even TV sets.
This report
examines the increase in local storage-based products and discusses
why it is occurring. Included in the report are profiles for key
product segments for leading consumer electronics and hard disk
drive manufacturers.
The report also
provides updated worldwide unit shipment and revenue forecasts for
