International
MTU Market Set to Grow to $9.8 Billion in '05
SCOTTSDALE, Ariz., June 12, 2001
- Given the geographic expansion and emergence of new players in
non-US markets, the international Multi Tenant Unit (MTU) market
is poised for strong growth over the next four years, according
to Cahners In-Stat Group (http://www.instat.com).
The high-tech market research firm projects that the worldwide MTU
market will grow from $1.2 billion in 2001 to $9.8 billion in 2005.
"For the last several years the MTU
broadband market has built a foundation in US markets, promoting
the efficiency and economy of the in-building deployment model.
Although the in-building model encountered barriers in its development,
it has emerged as a solid deployment technique for delivering broadband
to MTU structures," says Amy
Helland, Industry Analyst
with In-Stat's Multi Tenant
Broadband Group. In-Stat sites that the recent reconstruction
of the standard service provision business model promises to further
strengthen this burgeoning market. North American market expansion
has occurred as many US equipment and service providers have expanded
their coverage into Canada, thus helping to establish an MTU broadband
market there. MTU deployments have also began to move south of the
US border into Mexico and there is also a considerable opportunity
outside of the North American market for MTU deployments:
- Asia, in particular, represents
a strong market due to the architectural and demographic characteristics
of the region.
- While characteristically a very
diverse market, Europe will also represent a solid MTU market
potential.
- Latin America, to date, does not
represent a strong MTU market. However, activity in Mexico alludes
to a similar opportunity in certain Latin American markets.
Geographic expansion of the MTU market
introduces a new group of MTU solution providers. While many MTU
hardware vendors are actively shipping product to international
markets, there are also non-US based equipment providers emerging.
Most of the companies to emerge internationally, however, are service
providers seeking to capitalize on the enormous market opportunity
for a wide range of broadband services.
