Business Professionals Expect Increased Wi-Fi Hotspot Use
SCOTTSDALE, Ariz., February 2, 2006 -
Business professionals’ use of Wi-Fi hotspot access and services is on the rise, both in the number of users and the frequency that they use these services, reports In-Stat (http://www.in-stat.com). According to an online survey of 579 business professionals conducted by the high-tech market research firm, nearly half of all respondents are current hotspot users, and all others say they may use hotspots in the future. Of current users, 25% consider themselves heavy users (defined as using hotspots once a week or more).
Users consider the lack of availability, fears of poor network security, and high costs as lead reasons not to use hotspots. In-Stat finds that security concerns are largely being addressed by the individual, and less so at a corporate level.
A recent report by In-Stat found the following:- Survey respondents indicated a strong interest (51 percent response rate) in using a service with enhanced security features and were willing to pay for these features.
- Most users access hotspots while traveling on business (as compared to using hotspots in town or for leisure purposes).
- Hotels and airports continue to be the most popular access venues (84 and 72 percent of respondents use these, respectively).
Recent In-Stat research, Hotspots: Individual's Perspectives (#IN0502198MU), examines adoption of, and perspectives on, hotspots on a corporate and individual level, among businesspersons primarily in the US. It contains the results of an In-Stat user survey on Wi-Fi access point use, including frequency of usage, points of concern, and willingness to pay for certain services.
