Utility Computing Garners Demand Up-Market

The theory of capitalizing on shared computing power and resources has been around for some time. Utility computing, while not a completely new concept or technology is starting to garner measurable demand, especially among larger firms.

In April 2007, In-Stat conducted a managed services survey that, in large part, was dedicated to gauging demand for, and discovering the drivers of utility computing among US business IT decision-makers. This white paper highlights some of that survey data and should provide valuable insight for those interested in current adoption trends in utility computing—especially providers engaged in, or considering offering a utility computing service.

Topics covered include:

  • Why firms adopt utility computing services
  • Who they turn to for these services
  • What services are in demand
