Abstract
Over the last 30 years the West Europe market has grown nearly five times. Back in the 1970s electronic data processing accounted for less than 20% of the market, now it is well over 30%. The importance of semiconductors has also greatly increased, from only around 5% of the total market to its present level of over 10%. The World electronics market is forecast to be worth US$1.5 trillion by the year 2007 and to continue to expand at a faster rate than the world economy as a whole.

This edition of the West Europe volume of the ‘Yearbook of World Electronics Data’ presents a review of the world electronics industries and markets with detailed estimates and forecasts of the size of the production and markets for electronic equipment and components in each country. Software and services are not included in the ‘Yearbook’ series.
