Abstract
The broadband CPE market is moving rapidly from being modem-dominated to one where the gateway takes the starring role. After years of lip service from broadband providers on the necessity of gateways to deliver more advanced services, the big cable MSOs and telcos are finally putting their money where their mouth is and sending out RFPs to the players in the CPE equipment market. From Comcast on the cable side, to Verizon, Yahoo!BB and France Telecom in the DSL market, these providers are evolving CPE strategies to include fuller gateways that enable, at the very least, a back-end managed home network. And while the long-awaited convergence of the broadband CPE and set-top markets hasn’t happened, there are more examples of broadband service providers offering entertainment services through advanced CPE devices, such as FastWeb in Italy and Free ISP in France.

This report includes forecasts of gateways, modems and home routers, both in units and revenues, as well as by region. Forecasts for gateways are broken out by access type. Also included are forecasts for VoIP enabled consumer CPE by form factor. Market shares for modems (DSL and Cable), gateways and routers are included as well.
