Abstract
This report provides detailed market forecasts for telecom spending in the middle market, as well as the result of a telecom-specific study completed in July of this year. Data on telcom priorities and investments, current and preferred telecom providers, and decision-makers’ opinions on VoIP/IP issues is included. Research on the indirect channels (outside of service providers) that businesses use to purchase data services is also presented.

The fragmentation of these firms, into as many as 12 remote sites, continues to drive their telecom requirements, particularly for IP-based services that provide cost-effective alternatives for small locations and allow senior IT decision-makers to set “standards” for connectivity and service levels in sites remote from the main office. However, there is a long way to go before this market fully embraces IP-enabled voices or other IP-enabled services. In the mean time, providers will need to do a better job of targeting these customers and partnering with channel players to improve their “solutions” capabilities.
