Abstract
This report provides detailed market forecasts for telecom spending in the small business market, as well as the result of a telecom-specific study completed in July of this year. Data on telcom priorities and investments, current and preferred telecom providers, and decision-makers’ opinions on VoIP/IP issues is included. Research on the indirect channels (outside of service providers) that businesses use to purchase wireline and wireless data services is also presented.

The small business market is a critical segment of the US economy. It is leading the current economic recovery and is expected to drive expenditure growth for providers of all types for the next few years. With more than 2 million growing, changing businesses in this market, it is a diverse and difficult segment to target. In-Stat/MDR research shows that small business telecom requirements continue to evolve, as these firms invest in faster Internet access, struggle to address increasing remote access and mobility needs and explore a variety of lower-cost IP-based alternatives – broadband, IP VPNs, and VoIP.
