Abstract
This report presents a detailed analysis of the 64-bit embedded microprocessors (eMPU), cell-based, customer-specific market, i.e., custom designs that include at least one pre-defined 64-bit microprocessor core, along with other functions, using the cell-based design approach. This architecture (bus width) is on a high growth path, not only for customer-specific applications, but also in the development of true single-chip development platforms, the ASIC of tomorrow, as well as in a multitude of ASSP products. Worldwide customer-specific, cell-based market revenues for this technology will see its revenues grow from $91.2 million in 2003, to $1,855.7 million by 2008, translating to a compound annual growth rate, 2003-2008, of 82.7%.

End-use consumption of products incorporating 64-bit eMPU technology is examined in detail by major end-use market; EDP, communications, consumer, industrial, and military/automotive, as well as by major second-level end-use application, such as networks, basestations, servers, factory automation, electronic games and toys, et cetera. Geographic consumption for each of the four major regions, The Americas, Europe, Japan and Asia Pacific, is also explored, as are processor architecture (ARM, MIPS, etc.), hard- vs. soft-core implementation, operating voltage, packaging, and mixed-signal trends, along with suppliers of 64-bit eMPU cores, be they IDMs or independent IP providers. Also included are other major embedded functions in these desi
