Abstract
In 4Q03, the Wi-Fi market grew by 40% in unit shipments, and by almost 20% in end sales. 16.6 million Wi-Fi units shipped out in 4Q03, compared to 11.9 million in 3Q03. Fourth quarter revenues came in at slightly over $1 billion, compared to $877 million in 3Q03. The Christmas season definitely gave the Wi-Fi market a healthy year-end boost, driving the annual growth rate of the Wi-Fi hardware market to over 140% in unit shipments, and helping to push annual end-use revenues up by almost 50%.

The embedded market made big waves in 2003, as over 15 million embedded Wi-Fi clients shipped out in notebook PCs, from the likes of Dell, HP, IBM, Toshiba, Fujitsu/Fujitsu-Siemens, Acer, Gateway, Sony, and NEC. Two other Wi-Fi market segments emerged in the second half of 2003, including Wi-Fi Media devices and Wi-Fi Switch systems.
