Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP)
semiconductors continued to grow strongly in 2004, following on
a strong 2003. After 40.8 million ports shipped and $137.6 million
in sales in 2003, In-Stat/MDR expects the market to grow to 206.7
million ports shipped and $938.4 million in sales in 2008.
The main driver for this growth will be the
integration of VoIP functionality with many “dual-mode” cellular/VoIP
(over WLAN) handsets, gaining mainstream traction in 2006 and ramping
up extremely quickly in 2007 and beyond. Wired IP phone shipments
will grow much more modestly. However, all three segments covered
in the report, IP phone ICs, CPE VoIP Gateway ICs, and Carrier Infrastructure
VoIP Gateway ICs, are expected to grow strongly in port shipments
over the forecast period, although rapidly falling ASPs will cause
a slight decline in revenue in the Carrier Infrastructure VoIP Gateway
IC segment by the end of the forecast period.
This report examines the market factors influencing
this growth, as well as the changing technology for VoIP chipsets.
This report will be of particular benefit to VoIP IC product managers,
as well as financial analysts and consultants needing to evaluate
the market potential for the VoIP IC industry.
