Abstract
World phones and in-flight wireless voice and data services are two key growth areas for the global wireless industry over the next few years, and In-Stat/MDR’s mobile user Technology Adoption Panel survey results indicate that subscriber interest in each category is strong. World phones, which allow easy roaming between international cellular networks, are already key fixtures in the mobile handset industry. The launch of in-flight wireless services began in 2004 with the introduction of airborne WLAN, and the nascent business is expected to receive a tremendous boost with the deployment of in-flight cellular voice and data in 2006.

This report includes the following insights on the markets for world phones and in-flight wireless voice and data services:

 - Profiles of wireless subscribers’ travel patterns, with a focus on international travel for both personal and business purposes.

 - Assessment of the current industry landscape for the growth of the world phone handset market, as well as the development and deployment of in-flight wireless voice and data services.

 - Examination and analysis of wireless subscriber interest in, attitudes about, and willingness to pay for, world phone handset capabilities.

 - Examination and analysis of wireless subscriber interest in, attitudes about, and willingness to pay for, several key prospective in-flight wireless voice and data services.
