Abstract
Mobile music and audio services in the US are beginning to evolve beyond the familiar, tinny sounds of monophonic ringtones. With mobile data services entering the mainstream, wireless multimedia is seen as the one of the next big growth areas for the cellular business. Carriers and content providers are now working quietly behind the scenes on a new generation of mobile services that are designed to bring wireless connectivity to the digital music revolution.

This report, based on In-Stat/MDR’s Consumer Mobility Study, contains the following insights on which mobile music and audio categories will be a success in the US market:

 * Overall Interest in Mobile Music – An overview of Consumer Mobility Survey respondents’ interest in potential music and audio services for their mobile handsets. The results are analyzed by psychographic segment, choice of wireless carrier, usage of other home technology products, and consumption patterns for music/audio content including compact discs, audio books, and radio.

 * Profiles of Mobile Music Intenders – Detailed tables containing demographic, professional, and purchasing behavior profiles of consumers who expressed an interest in purchasing mobile music/audio services.

 * Consumer Content Preferences – Examines wireless consumer interest in six potential mobile music/audio content offerings.
