Abstract
For the last three years, cellular operators have remained focused on offering new higher-speed data services, which are finally here, but have often received lackluster intertest from customers. At the same time, the wired telecom world has been quickly moving forward to embrace Voice over IP (VoIP) technology, which even long-time wired telecom king, AT&T, is now ofering. But VoIP hasn't been confined to the wired world, and a new technology, Voice over WLAN (VoWLAN) has been emerging at price competitive costs.

The marriage of voice cellular with VoWLAN is the topic of this report. This report looks at Cellular/VoWLAN convergence from both a carrier view and a device maker view, and explores some of the pros, cons, and obstacles with bringing this tecgnology to market. Forecasts include Voice cellular device shipments with converged WLAN used for data only and voice and data. Worldwide and US forecasts are included, as are forecasts that are broken out by business and consumer.
