Abstract
Shipments of cell phones grew at a very healthy rate in the fourth quarter, up 14% from the same period a year ago, and up 12% from Q3, according to a new In-Stat/MDR report called "Quarterly Handset Shipments Soar: Q4 2003." For the year, shipment totals set a record at 504 million units.

The strong quarter and year were driven by:

 - Strong demand for camera phones
 - Color displays spurring new sales
 - Local Number Portability (LNP) spurring a bump up in new orders

 Also found in this report:
 - Regional shipment data
 - Handset revenue estimates
 - Implications for service providers
 - Metrics for shipments by technology
 - New figures for camera phone and smartphone shipments
 - New handsets coming to market
