Abstract
This study provides companies with information to help them understand the purchase planning and implementation process for wireless data in the business environment. This study provides a great level of detail, looking at decision-makers versus decision-influencers, and current wireless data users versus planners. It also provides data by company size (i.e., 100 to 249, 250-999, 1,000-9,999, and 10,000+), vertical market, and department (where appropriate). Issues covered in this study include: mobile workers (percentage and types), wireless data (WWAN, enterprise wireless LAN and Public WLAN/hotspot services – with an emphasis on the WWAN) services used, wireless carriers for voice and data, decision-making process and attributes used in service provider selection, average employee bills, bill payment methods and usage of contracts (including corporate-liable and sponsored), demand for other services (e.g. technical support), and for managed services; and device type usage (e.g. PDAs, notebooks, two-way messaging devices); current use and plans for wireless data applications on PDAs and notebooks (separately). It also discusses percentage of IT budgets dedicated to wireless data, and identifies internal funding sources. A very detailed, 175-chart Powerpoint presentation accompanies this report.
