| Entertainment Industry Survey: Perceptions
Of Piracy, PC Industry, PVRs And Competition |
 |
In-Stat/MDR conducted a survey of 1,806
readers of Variety, Broadcasting & Cable and Multichannel News to
better understand the entertainment community’s perceptions about
emerging digital technologies and their impact on electronic entertainment.
This report details the findings of this fascinating survey, helping
the reader find out exactly what those who own the content think about
both the new technologies impacting their business and the companies
from the new media space that are helping to reshape the future.
Over one-quarter of all participants believed that piracy was
already having an impact on their business, but another quarter of
respondents did not foresee piracy having a major impact at all. Over
one-third of those in film were likely to see a strong impact on their
business today. There was a direct correlation between those who saw
piracy as a threat and those who believed in the importance of enforcing
copyright laws.
The survey also asked about the Personal Computer industry and
three companies: Microsoft, Apple and IBM. We obtained specific comments,
both pro and con, about the PC industry, its emergence into the Entertainment
market, and about each company. |
