| Applications Markets
for the Growing NAND Flash Mob |
 |
The growth potential of the
NAND Flash market is best attested to by the rush by semiconductor
firms to enter it. The list of suppliers reads like a
1990’s DRAM supplier list, and the NAND Flash business
is in many ways like the DRAM business. It is experiencing
rapid bit growth, rapid price per bit decline, rapid movement
to denser chips and a high degree of price elasticity.
NAND is the preferred semiconductor storage solution in
several rapidly growing areas including digital cameras,
portable MP3 players, and USB memory.
In-Stat uses both a top-down and bottom-up methodology.
The top-down forecasting model uses WSTS actual figures
and recent trends to size the historical and current NAND
Flash market, while technology trending is used to forecast
future product transitions and prices. The bottom-up model
identifies the key NAND Flash end-use applications, and
determines the average amount of Flash memory used in
each target application device. The forecast is then derived
using In-Stat’s end product forecasts, average memory
size growth and anticipated NAND Flash device price per
Mbit.
This report will provide an overview of the NAND
Flash Memory Markets, the players and products, and a
forecast for the NAND Flash Market. It will then provide
a detailed forecast for NAND Flash by application including
Digital Still Cameras (Standard, Toy and Dual Mode), Digital
Video Cameras, MP3 Players, Video Games, PDAs, USB Flash
Drives, Mobile Handsets, and Flash Memory |
